International Rabbits

What better way to ring in spring, Easter-style than with an art show about bunnies? Touch My Bunny is an international group of ten artists showing off their rabbit-art starting this Thursday from 7-11pm at Magic Pony Gallery.

The art is diverse in style but solid in theme, and ranges from drawings, paintings, prints, embroidery, installation and dolls. The show looks at the pagan roots of Easter through the bunny as a symbol of life- or whatever it means to each of the artists involved. It's interesting to think how this one animal leaves such a different impression with all of us- do you relate it to a cute accessory, to a childhood memory or to a scrumptious dinner?

From local Hoi-An Tang (whose creations you might recognize from shopping around town) to my personal favourite: American Andrew Brandou, each artist explores this tall-eared beast in a new light.
I love how Brandou's watercolours have an eerie reminiscence of surreal storybooks from childhood (see image attached). At least, that's my take on it.

The show runs from March 24-April 18.
