Spoken Word Tonight: Face To The Sun

It's been a while since I've seen a really great multiple-act spoken word show. But good things are worth waiting for, right? Right.

This week I get an e-mail from Su Ferriera, co-organizer of The Face To The Sun Spoken Word fest, set to hit the stage at Harbourfront this weekend as part of Culture Shock. Now I'm tripping over my words just reading this lineup...

Coming in from all over the nation are artists like Shane Koyczan, Tumi (of Tumi & the Volume), Motion, Isis, Heron Jonse, Skeena Reece, Shauntay Grant, John Akpata, Rachel Flood, Afrikaren Niles, and Rafeef all kick things off tonight (7pm @ the Lakeside Terrace). Then, on Saturday, a number of the artists will return for the "Intimate Showcase / Youth Q&A" -- a pair of workshop sessions for local emerging poets.

And there's more...

Come Sunday, the Lakeside Terrance will again host Shane Koyczan along with Motion and Spin for a day time poetry session at 2pm. It's a short performance but a great reason to come see the best spoken word artists around and then take in the rest of the Culture Shock festival.

A few of us here at blogTO will be doing just that, so expect to hear more about the event over the weekend.

For more info on Face To The Sun or Culture shock, visit the Harbourfront Centre website or e-mail Face To The Sun.
