Centre for Indigenous Theatre
I went Spadina Branch of Toronto Public Library (which maintains the First Nations collection) last week to tease my former co-workers about the C.U.P.E. strike that did not happen.
While I was there I happened upon a brochure for the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, based in Toronto. I was totally unaware of the existance CfIT, a school have provides theatre training "that reflects the cultures, tradtions and experiences of Indigenous peoples".
Like most theatre schools, you have to audition to attend, however, the Full-Time program is only open to applicants 18+ who are of Aboringal ancestry. I did not see any restriction of non-natives to apply for the Summer program (held in Peterborough and in NWT). I myself would love the opportunity to widen my theatre knowledge to a greater cultural base.
What I think would be cool, though, if colaborative projects could occur between CfIT and other groups like, say, Ballet Creole or Obsidian Theatre.
Just a thought.
