52 Mondays in Toronto

Looking for something to do tomorrow? June Morrow and Lis Collett have started a site called 52 Mondays that explores fun and unqiue ways to spend the first night of the week. From Clown Jams to Dirty Bingo, there's a lot of interesting finds. Here's a brief Q&A I did with June:

Q. What is 52 Mondays and what was the inspiration behind the site?

52 Mondays is a website featuring short video clips on fun and unique things to do on Monday nights in Toronto. We shot our first story on Monday January 3 of this year and have since reported on something new each Monday with the goal of doing one story per week (or 52 Mondays) for the rest of the year.

The site came about for two reasons. One, my co-producer, Lis Collett, and I are both recent journalism school grads (I work at a business magazine, Lis works for a news website) and we were looking for a more entertaining way to excercise our broadcast reporting skills. And two, because it's not a big night of the week for going out, bars will sometimes get a bit more adventerous in what they put on. I'm often out in different locations doing stand-up comedy (plus I'm a bit of an events listings junkie) so had this awareness of all this great stuff (like Dirty Bingo at the Living Well) happening on Mondays that others maybe hadn't heard of. and I thought, that needs to be shared.

Q. What about Tuesday and Wednesday?

No doubt there is a lot going on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well. Who knows? Maybe after 52 Mondays we'll move on to 52 Tuesdays.

Q. What should we be checking out on an upcoming Monday?

Coming up we'll be doing a pole dancing class, a line dancing class, celebrity spotting in Yorkville, and checking out Elvis Mondays at the Drake. But pretty much any of the previous stories at 52mondays.ca would also make a great night out.

(Thanks Ryan)
