Gallery Space: Parks, Squares, Alleys & Islands.

July 21st -- this weekend in the Gallery Space...

This weekend, as the weather promises to be a tad milder, local artists are comin' out from the gallery spaces to take in a little sunshine.

Saturday, the Parkdale Arts & Crafts Festival is on, with artists and craftspeople setting up exhibitions and sales all over the Parkdale Town Square. Photobloggers Sean Galbraith and myself are also setting up space, so feel free to stop by and say hello.

The show in Parkdale wraps up at 6pm, at which point you can have a bite to eat and then hop the Queen streetcar east to Broadview and the Toronto Free Gallery. At 8pm, in the alley behind the gallery, they're hosting a performance as part of their "Vacant Lots" exhibition. The artist featured works with "Urban Textiles"... what more do you need to know?

Next stop is the Toronto Islands where the Sound Travels Festival will host the Sign Waves Outdoor Sound Installation: Sonic Boarkwalk by Kristi Allik and Robert Mulder. The installation opens July 24th and runs until October first. The idea here is that the piece will generate a "microsound lansdcape activated by the kinetic imprint of passing visitors." This work is going to be installed on a section of the boardwalk between Wards Island and Centre Island (south side).
