A Little Cuckoo at Second City
Never have I laughed so hard at a theatre performance, especially when the show begins with a toe tapping song that contains probably one of the best 4 lettered curse words you can think of.
Second City's Bird Flu Over the Cuckoo's Nest is now playing at the new theatre on Mercer Street right beside Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant, which by the way, made it very easy to stop in for a drink on the Oasis rooftop patio just before the show started.
The hilarious thing about the show is that it deals with all the daily complexities of today's modern society. E-mail, MSN, blogging, oh yeah, it's all there--along with various socially awkward situations that almost everyone is more than familiar with. By the sounds of laughter throughout the theatre (including my own loud guffaws), Bird Flu has managed to tickle its audience's funny bone with intelligent writing, cheeky songs, and some silly physical comedy as well.
As if I had not already been laughing hard enough through the first hour and a half, the last half hour of the show was spent watching the actors engage in some improv that turned out to be almost as funny if not funnier than the show itself. Observing the performers of Bird Flu Over The Cuckoo's Nest and noticing how much fun they were having, brought me back to my theatre days and made me think that maybe I should get back into the drama "thang".
Annnnnnd...scene.
