Hip-Hop Jams in October

The weekend of October 28th and 29th will be jam packed (no pun intended) with four different Hip-Hop events in Toronto. Here's whats happening.

October 28th - 'Halloween Funk' at the El Mocambo presented by Activate and Make It Funky with special guest DJ Afrika Bambaataa. (For those who don't know, Afrika Bambaataa is one of the legends of Hip-Hop culture, the 'Godfather' of Hip-Hop.) Costumes are encouraged at this party so think of one to wear!

October 28th - 'King Of The Streets' B-Boy Battle from 2-8pm at The Royal Canadian Legion on 243 Coxwell Ave. There will be various competitions including a 2 on 2 B-Boy battle, Popping and Locking battle, and a powermove (headspins, windmills, etc) battle. Performances by local MC's will be happening as well. For more information e-mail dragonz@rogers.com or call 416-693-8780.

October 29th - Roots, Culture and Beats: Breakdancing For All
4:00pm Parkdale Library Downstairs, 1303 Queen St West
"Callin' all hip-hop loving, street-dance groupies, closeted b-girls and b-boys and true funk-adoring fans - old school and young - for a two hour workshop that explores the moves, beats, art and culture of breakdancing."

October 29th - The Right Spin: The Art, Politics and Business of Deejaying in the City
1:00 pm - 3:00pm
Queen West Arts Centre, 100a Ossington Ave (2 blocks north of Queen)
"Music transcends language and a good dj does more than just spin to the crowd. ARCfest presents a two-hour deejaying workshop for the politically savvy."
