March 1st - This Week in the Gallery Space:

Wallpaper. From its place as a dated wall decoration usually seen as a background for artwork, it seems wallpaper is finally making it's move into the spotlight... or at least scraps of it are.

Two notable shows open up this week in which the artist(s) incorporate good ol' wallpaper into their work.

First up, Toronto artist Teri Donovan and the Propeller Centre (984 Queen St W) bring us, Wallpaper.

Works in this show (one, seen on the right) are mixed-media and combine past and present to create a context for exploring themes of identity, memory, time, fear, and desire.

Runs 'til March 11th, 2007.

A little further west, Loop Gallery (1174 Queen St W) hosts time. traveler. , by Tanya Cunnington.

In her work, Cunnington uses collage to create wonderful abstract yet nostalgic works. Some of the materials that make up her pieces include: old wallpaper, found documents, and yellowing newspaper.

The exhibit opens March 3rd with a reception from 2-5pm and runs 'til March 25th, 2007.
