Robert Linsley - Islands

Gallery Space: Islands

Opening at Diaz Comtemporary (100 Niagara St.) tonight is the first solo exhibition by Robert Linsley, entitled, Islands 1998-2005.

This exhibit, as you might guess from the title, features paintings Linsley created between 1998 and 2005. Every canvas is 72x60" and is formed by spilling enamel on canvas and then carefully tipping the surface in various directions.

The results are 'islands' on the canvas. Various shapes, colours and surfaces emerge as each island is formed by variations in paint consistency and the artist's motion.

Somewhere between letting the paint run free and while still controlling it, Linsley finds meaning and inspiration.

Finally, he titles each piece, embedding subtle layers of meaning in each title... something that should make this one very interesting exhibit to see and reflect on.

Runs until May 12, 2007 with an opening reception on Saturday, April 14th from 3-6pm.
