Sip | See | Swoon: Salon South Asia
Salon South Asia is an event on Wednesday, April 18 from 7pm - 10pm hosted by the Friends of South Asia, an affiliate group within the ROM's membership ranks. I first learned about Salon South Asia at a blogger preview event for the Ancient Peru Unearthed exhibit at the ROM. It's a gathering that continues the French salon tradition.
Attendees will enjoy South Asian contemporary art and culture. A selection of artists like, Puja Amin, Sudarshan Belsare, Anita Katakkar, Noni Kaur and Sylvat Aziz will present works from various disciplines like sculpture, dance, music, video and painting. There will also be a rare preview of artifacts from the Sir Christopher Ondaatje South Asian Gallery scheduled to re-open late this year. Rounding out the night will be Cultural Spinstress DJ Zahra.
Tickets are free for Friends of South Asia members but you will need to RSVP via membership@rom.on.ca or by calling 416.586.5700. Admission for Non Friends is $20 dollars and is available for purchase online or at the door. Guests are encouraged to dress gallery chic and be fabulous. The evening is about inspiring people and stimulating discussion. Cash bar.
Other affiliate groups with the ROM membership include Friends of the Canadian Collections, Friends of the Institute for Contemporary Culture, Friends of Textiles and Costume, Friends of the Far East, Friends of Ancient Egypt, and Friends of the Medieval Studies Society. These groups increase understanding and awareness of the museum's collections.
