Curry's Artists's Materials

Curry's Artists' Materials Gets Spanked

Did you see it? On page 11 of this week's NOW Magazine (yep, I still read it), a quarter page "ad" is crammed with text and the headline NOTICE BY CURRY'S ART STORE LIMITED REGARDING ADVERTISING PRICES. Apparently, Canada's Competition Bureau has charged one of Toronto's favourite art supply stores with misrepresenting the savings consumers could expect by purchasing some of their products.

As punishment for said misleading advertising, Curry's has been forced to publish the Corrective Notice like the one shown below in two Ontario publications (NOW Magazine being one of them), in its retail stores, web site and, for some reason, last year's Holiday Gift Guide. They have also been warned to ensure future advertising complies with the Competition Act, develop and implement a corporate compliance program AND pay a monetary penalty.

The full text of the Registered Consent Agreement can be found on the Competition Tribunal Web Site. A scan of the NOW ad is included below.
