Featuring breathtaking — but also heartbreaking — images from Magnum photographer Dominic Nahr, the latest exhibit at O'Born Contemporary examines the aftermath of last March's Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, which devastated the northeastern coast of Japan. Titled simply the Wave, the show documents the catastrophe on both a physical and emotional level, with photographs of both the damage to the landscape and the struggle for survival that ensued.

Nahr is one of those accomplished photographers who works in the photojournalist style, but nevertheless manages to overcome its perceived generic limitations. Along with his ability to communicate the scale of the disaster, there's a sensitivity to his photographs that's tough to describe, but palpable when walking through the gallery.

The Wave runs until July 30, 2011. A portion of all proceeds from exhibition sales will be donated to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre Foundation Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
