Despite heavy rain after 1am, Nuit Blanche 2013 was still one hell of a night. Streets all over town were jammed with art-goers, Ai Weiwei's City Hall exhibit drew massive crowds, and the Financial District in general was a hotbed of cultural activity. Even as the vibe at the event trends increasingly toward the party-set, this year had its fair share of memorable installations, be it Tadashi Kawamata's Garden Tower, Abraham Galway and Lauren Poon's The Other Side of the Gardiner, or the cedar-scented smells of the Smoke House. If there was a benefit to the rain, it's that it made some of the more lineup-worthy events much quicker to access. When I passed by Paper Orbs at around 2am, the wet weather had reduced the lineup to less than five minutes.
