Capital Espresso now boasts a zine vending machine
Arts vending machines pop up from time to time, though I've seen more of them in Montreal than in Toronto thus far. Good news on the fast-art front: The Monkey's Paw's book vending machine the Biblio-mat now has another partner in lit-to-go, this time serving up local work rather than the former's mysterious used books. No Fun Press and Blood of the Young Zine's "Blood of the Yung / Loonie Trap" debuted at AGO's First Thursday on January 2nd, and now enjoys a permanent location at Capital Espresso on Queen St. W.
Capital was an obvious pick to house the vending machine - the cafe already shows works by local artists, and it's right down the street from studios where the works are published. Toronto artists Brendan Megannety, Christian Stearry, Reilly Hodgson, and more are currently selling wears in "The Trap," so unlike your experience buying Cheetos from a regular vending machine, plunging a loonie into this installation could get you a piece of art that you treasure forever. No offense to the nutritional info on the Cheetos bags currently passing for reading material in some of Toronto homes, but take note: less depressing options exist.
You can visit Capital Espresso at 1349 Queen St. W. on Monday - Friday 7am-7pm, Saturday 8am-7pm, and Sunday 8am-7pm.
