toronto gallery weekend 2022

Massive city-wide arts festival from Berlin and Paris is coming to Toronto

Nothing says fall in the city quite like a day spent at an art exhibition, or several. From the AGO and Gardiner Museum, to the ROM and Vincent Van Gogh exhibition, there's no shortage of creativity in Toronto.

Creatives and art fans alike can look forward to Gallery Weekend Toronto, returning for its second edition this weekend. For four days, 26 of Toronto's contemporary galleries are coming together to offer artist talks, late-night openings, special events and more.

This event brings together art lovers, curators and collectors from across the city into one exciting experience.

Gallery Weekend Toronto has three curated routes where all the galleries are mapped out on an easy-to-follow tour, making it easier to explore Toronto's top galleries by transit, bike, or your chosen mode of transportation.

Route Lower Toronto

The Lower Toronto route stretches from Lansdowne to Parliament.

Galleries in these three areas will showcase exhibitions by major international artists and emerging talents.

A public events program will also be featured and will include cocktail receptions, performances, educational tours and artist meet and greets.

Route Dupont / Junction

Head out to the Dupont/Junction area and gallery hop like a pro.

Gallery Weekend Toronto is an experiment by the Contemporary Arts Galleries Association, which is a way to help its members with sales and visibility in the local arts community.

Gallery Weekends happen in many of the world's largest cities, such as Berlin, Milan, Paris and more. Toronto adopted the Gallery Weekend in hopes of getting more people and new collectors into physical gallery spaces, encouraging sales and exposure.

Route Wallace / Dundas

Each route will take you to a number of galleries and will allow you to explore the city as you discover outstanding exhibitions and artists.

Last year, Gallery Weekend Toronto's first edition involved 22 galleries from the city's central, west and south neighbourhoods.

It saw approximately 200 visitors per day and gallery, averaging aorund 5,000 visitors in the various venues over the four-day period. Most galleries reported sales with new and current clients, along with higher than average traffic.

This year, some of the highlights include the Native Art Department International exhibition, Woodland Boogie Woogie, the Shannon Bool exhibition, Gaslight, the Azadeh Elmizadeh exhibition, Sister Seeds, along with many more.

Gallery Weekend Toronto will be from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25. Admission is free.
