Dineen Outpost Toronto

Dineen Outpost

Dineen Outpost is the more rustic of the Dineen Coffee locations, and the first one ever to obtain a liquor license.

The original spot is on Temperance, and they also have a location in Commerce Court West.

They’re known for their interior design expertly handled by Pencil, as are all locations. The wraparound bar at the front window is actually reconstructed from the original one at the Temperance location.

Light fixtures outfitted with vintage chandelier attachments arching over a cactus boreal green granite bar provide a focal point, the only lighting during nighttime hours along with sconces inlaid with china.

A latte ($3.95) is the standard gorgeousness Dineen fans have come to expect, eye-popping latte art made using silky smooth milk foam, the coffee their usual own Temperance Roast.

A cortado ($3.50) also arrives with breathtaking art, filled perfectly to the brim.

Soda with a shot of espresso and a little house vanilla syrup reminds me a little of the espresso and tonic combinations I’ve seen, but way less bitter and more crushable.

Iced matchas and Americanos are inspired by the location’s proximity to Pape Village and the Danforth.

They’re put together in a layered style with milk on the bottom, coffee or tea in the middle, and foam on top in the style of a Greek frappe.

Spiced olives ($5) and acidic, crunchy pickled Piparra peppers ($5) are part of a late menu of snack-y bites offered after 5.

A meat and cheese board ($25) provides a daily selection of cured meats and Canadian cheeses. Today’s is a rich coppa, Genoa salami and Serrano ham, along with a PEI standard cheddar, Quebec Benedictine blue and chevre noir, and an Eweda sheep’s milk from Blyth, Ontario.

A Charlotte Margarita ($16) is so named because of its float of peaty Bruichladdich Port Charlotte scotch replacing typical mezcal. Designed to guide margarita drinkers toward scotch, it’s a boozy, earthy mix of reposado, lemon juice, Cointreau, and Xocolat bitters.

Thanks to triple-shaken egg whites the cocktail has a satiny smooth top decorated with a bitters design that easily stands up to the latte art here.

The Presbyterian Peach ($15) is an refreshing but punchy combination of Bruichladdich classic Laddie, lemon juice, house peach syrup, Angostura bitters and ginger ale piled with ice and finished off with a juicy Cara Cara orange slice.

The place is awash in marble, with a more open area at the front and a more cozy elevated back area.
