Gsus industries, a thorn in the Queen West side...
Strapped onto the side of the Lush store at Queen & Soho, the newest oversize advert glows in its rainbow-coloured glory. Gsus Industries has filled the prominent Queen West space with their newest ad for nothing in particular.
(they actually sell clothing and such - in case you were wondering.)
The image centred on the rainbow stripes is a white crown of thorns along with the tag line - "life's great, gsus sucks". Wow, these folks are almost as clever as trying-too-hard-to-be-anti-establishment folks a FCUK.
*gag*
I won't get into how insulting this is to consumer-intelligence, and how even teenagers are hopefully not so pathetically pulled in (though I fear for a good number)... nor will I even really dig into how people may see the ad, be offended, and then unfairly associate it with the LGBT community because of the colours (grrr)... keepin' my mouth shut. ;)
What I will mention though is that the inhabitants of this city I love have prevailed.
Mere hours after its installation, someone with a handy can of red spray paint, puts G.I. in their place by spraying right over "sucks." After all, Jesus is our "homeboy", right? (Are those t-shirts still flying off the shelves?)
Also, oddly enough, it appears the whole thing just too ugly for people to leave their tag on. Though plenty of folks have sprayed and inked their graffiti works on the wall around the ad, as well as on other nearby walls and billboards, no one has even dared leave their mark on this one... uncool by association? Fcuking excellent.
