International Women's Day...
...is today! And I have to tell ya, I really had to dig to find out what was going on in the city! I guess it's because I missed the main events last weekend, but did you hear about them? Because I sure didn't. Maybe our trusty government should fork out some dollars next year to raise more awareness? I mean, other than this "bulletin". But don't fret, I did find some interesting things to check out tonight...
-There's an All Female Comedy Revue, 8-10pm, at Lula Lounge (seriously, no boys allowed). Find more info here. Not sure if the price is $10 or $20, as I've read mixed facts on different sites...
-Ferron, the "pioneering feminist folkie" as per Now mag, is on tonight at Hugh's Room , $25 at the door.
-You can also swing by the Horseshoe for a free show featuring Heartless Bastards (with Erika Wenner) who mash together blues with punk, on at around 10pm.
-Starting today until April 17th, the Joseph D. Carrier Gallery (Colombus Centre, 901 Lawrence Ave/Dufferin) is showing "LEGACIES: REFLECTIONS ON CANADIAN WOMEN". This sounds pretty rad- features portraits of 24 Canadian women who immigrated here despite kazillions of obstacles. The photos were handpicked by the granddaughters of these women, and the show is based on Gina Valle's book, "Our Grandmother's, Ourselves: Reflections On Canadian Women". The show is free, so check it out!
