Torontonian in Nashville: Ontario Plate
Spending the day in Nashville, Tennessee, I was hardly expecting to see any reminders of home. Faced with a breakfast menu that included "mush" (yes, no editorializing there, the item name was "mush") I pretty certain about it too.
Then while getting the car from a lot to head out of town came the first Canadian moment...
The attendand sees the plate and shouts, "HEY! CANADA!"
"EH!" we shout back as he asks us where we're from.
"Toronto."
"Toronto!"
"Toronto!"
"What part?"
Thinking he is just being friendly, we say "downtown". He shakes his head and asks where specifically...
Turns out, until a few months ago, he lived a few blocks up from my place and just moved to Nashville.
King Solomon (his name) couldn't stand the cold apparently (he tells me in -15 conditions), but asks if I know a dollar store right beside a church at St. Clair and Dufferin.
"Yes yes. It's called Millionaire or something..."
"YES! That's my brother's store! You should go in and say hello!"
After promising him I will, he goes on to tell me what a wonderful city Toronto is. Nashville isn't so bad either... but I'm freezing, so it's time to get in the car.
If anyone is up in the St. Clair and Dufferin area this week, I encourage ya to go in and say hi to the owner of Millionaire dollar store... from his bro in Nashville.
