Flag Flap Flop Flipped
Since construction began on the Frank Gehry designed renovation of the AGO, the flags flying from the poles outside have been rapidly deteriorating. The Ontario flag especially was in a tragic state of disrepair - the end quarter entirely torn off, the rest ragged, and the Ontario Coat of Arms threatening to seperate from the rest of the flag.
Thankfully today, as I walked past the building, I noticed that it had finally been taken down; given the continuation of construction, and the likely damage to any flag put up there that that would involve, that was probably a better option than replacing it. The Canadian flag had also been taken down, presumably to save it from the destruction wrought on its companion.
Now I'm not a fan of the Ontario flag - it's a colonial emblem and should be replaced with a flag that represents a modern Ontario - but if you're going to fly a flag, especially one that represents a people, you should at least take care of it.
Thank you AGO for doing the right, if belated, thing.
