Save the Birds -- Lights Out!

Another good reason to be turning off some lights in the downtown core:

Reading up on CBC news bulletins, apparently Toronto Hydro is asking big building owners to turn off their lights overnight to help reduce the number of birds killed through skyscraper collisions when they migrate back up north. Yes, not only are we the centre of the universe, we are right in the way of the flight path and wreaking havoc with our lit and mirrored skyline.

And frankly, when the power company willingly suggests missing out on some revenue, you know there must be a problem.

The ROM is helping raise awareness of the issue by hosting a display of over 2000 dead birds (from 89 different species!) that were victim to the lights in their 2005 journey. Gruesome but powerful.
