Torontonians Spending More Time Commuting Than Ever Before

Morning Brew: July 13, 2006

Your morning news roundup for Thursday, July 13, 2006:

Apparently, Canadians are spending too much time commuting, with Torontonians spending an average of 79 minutes per round trip. Hopefully developers will actually read this report and work to stop urban sprawl, instead of intensifying it.

Flemingdon Park's community resource centre is getting re-named after an MPP: just another one of the perks of entering politics.

Speaking of political perks, Toronto's public school trustees have agreed to give themselves a 420% pay raise, while most schools in the city can't pay for math books.

Next month, Green Phoenix, an affordable housing project, will begin construction in Parkdale, and hopefully city council will sit up and notice.

In what sadly seems to be a recurring theme in these Morning Brews, more shootings erupt across the city.

Thousands of Blackberry users lost their service yesterday when a construction rig knocked over a hydro pole in Toronto, saving the rest of us from the annoying beeps of emails being typed away by the guy next to us on the streetcar.
