Storm Hits Toronto

Morning Brew: October 4, 2006

Your morning news roundup for Wednesday, October 4, 2006:

If you haven't noticed already, it's raining outside. Toronto seems to be missing the worst of it, but a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for most of southern Ontario. Take an umbrella.

Rick Ducharme, who resigned as TTC manager because of the politics behind it all, is now heading over to deal with some more politics as general manager for Edmonton Transit.

The very new-look Raptors, featuring a few names you've probably never heard of before in the NBA, opened training camp yesterday in preparation for a better season than they've had in the past few years. Which shouldn't be hard, because they've been dismal.

Ever wondered what a mayoral debate would look like if there were more than 30 candidates? Well, tonight at Who Wants to be Mayor?, you can easily find out.

See, I'm not the only person who moved back in with his parents after a few years away: The Toronto Star says that it's a trend. I feel much better about myself now.

The National Post seems to like Marc Lostracco's TTC t-shirts as well. Maybe now someone on the TTC will notice.

Dreams can come true, but apparently only if you act upon them. An Etobicoke woman won $16 million after a dream told her to buy two 6/49 tickets with the eventual winning numbers.

It's campaign time in the city: Jane Pitfield realizes she needs to refocus her campaign, while Paul Ainslie forgets that he made some promises to the voting public.

Here's what I don't get: why hold a celebrity chef cook-off in Dundas Square if you're not going to be distributing food to the onlookers? People get hungry when there are pumpkins involved.
