Morning Brew: March 15th, 2007

Your morning news roundup for Thursday March 15th, 2007:

A real hand grenade that was fashioned into a novelty cigarette lighter prompted a bomb scare in Richmond Hill when it was spotted in a box behind a mall. Somewhere nearby, a guy wearing camouflage is asking "Got a light?".

A skateboarder that was nailed by a moving car in Kensington has been nailed with charges and has some nasty bruises - and it was all caught on video. I wonder what Rob Ford would have to say about this?

A man posing as a police officer has been stealing from women in clubs and bars in the entertainment district. Keep your eyes on your purses, foxy ladies!

Toronto Hydro has a message for condo owners - turn out your lights and/or close your curtains at night and you might save some lives. The chances of birds returning from migration and slamming into your windows are much reduced if condo and office towers are not lit up at night (birds are to lit up buildings as moths are to lightbulbs).

Some Bingo scratch-and-win lotto cards are being yanked from Ontario stores due to a "customer complaint that winning Super Bingo cards could be identified without having to scratch". The news and details on how to detect a winning card comes too late for me to instantly scratch-and-solve my student loan problem.

Responding to a recent drop in US visitors, a boost of funding is being dedicated to promoting Ontario tourism and upcoming festivals. Watch for ads to appear pretty much everywhere, and get out and enjoy the great entertainment that's offered!
