Morning Brew: March 9th, 2007

Your morning news roundup for Friday March 9th, 2007:

If you're expecting, don't race down to Women's College Hospital when those contractions are just minutes apart. A bacterial outbreak has shut down the hospital and is expected to put some strain on the baby factory system in the province.

York council voted to go back to city-run garbage collection because it'll save the city $4.5million. The Etobicoke contract will remain in the hands of the private sector for now, because going back to city-run services would cost us a lot more. I don't really understand it, but as long as someone picks up my trash I'll be happy.

Frank Thomas made his Blue Jays debut down in Dunedin. The injury plagued 38-year old inked a deal for $18million over 2 years with Toronto. Let's hope he stays healthy and still packs a punch at the plate when he rolls into his 40s.

In arts news, a plan to create an arts center in the Jarvis & Dundas area looks like it'll be a reality. This will be a nice addition to a neighbourhood that's home to mostly moderate-income tenants.

The National Ballet is smiling ear-to-ear after a Toronto couple made a $2million donation. Don't fall in the shower when dancing in excitement!

The long term weather forecast is telling an encouraging story. We'll see highs of up to 10째C next week! Bring on spring!
