Your number-heavy morning news roundup for Wednesday May 9th, 2007:

Yesterday Toronto saw a record high temperature of 28oC that had us breaking out the shorts and sandals, but along with the freakish heat comes smog. Expect more than ever this summer.

The Lower Don Lands design competition is over and the winning design is getting high praise. The project is still far from reality though. A 2-year environmental assessment and a plan to come up with the required $150-million cost need first be realized before construction begins.

A Toronto-based development firm has plans to turn a humble Muskoka trailer park into 250 resort-style homes, and residents and cottagers are not happy about it. It could be worse though - at least they're not proposing 20 new 40-story condo towers on the shore of Lake Rosseau.

Ontarians use 7-million plastic shopping bags every day, prompting the government to push a program aiming to cut that number in half within 5-years. I think they should bring back the "Just Say No" concept previously applied to drug pushers.
