Nonfiction: All the News That's Not Fit to Print

Nonfiction: All the News That's Not Fit to Print

Every journalist has a large bank of stories that haven't had the chance to be voiced to the public, whether it be due to editorial control or self-censorship. Behind every great newspaper article or radio broadcast are dozens of strange, funny, or morbid stories that are only told over private dinners and after-work drinks.

The first show of Nonfiction hopes to bring these shadowy stories to light, inviting journalists from across Toronto to tell their secret stories to a crowd tomorrow night at the Drake Hotel Underground. Hosted by the always engaging Jesse Brown and with music provided by DJ Matt Blair, Nonfiction will feature stories from Richard Goddard, Antonia Zerbisias, Derek Finkle, and many more.

Featured speakers include:

  • Derek Finkle on Toro Magazine's bullfight with the Globe and Mail.
  • Richard Goddard on booking the CBC's most difficult radio guest.
  • Chris Randle on his "sexiest experiences in journalism".
  • Jay Teitel on the many deaths of Saturday Night Magazine.
  • Antonia Zerbisias on the end of media criticism.
  • Bill Shields burning whatever bridges he hasn't already.

The event kicks off tomorrow, June 20, at the Drake at 9pm and admission is $5.25. For more information or to RSVP, check out the Facebook event page for Nonfiction.
