Your morning news roundup for Tuesday September 18th, 2007:

A veteran Toronto police officer and the Police Services Board are being taken to Small Claims Court over the use of pepper spray during an arrest at a demonstration that got a little clashy. The outcome of this case could affect police policy with respect to the use of pepper spray.

Nearly four years after the tragic incident, the inquest into the collapse of the Uptown Theatre at Yonge & Bloor is finally underway. The coroner is expected to advise that there be a tightening of safety regulations on demolition sites. Four years later.

The next public showing of troop-support may be in the form of pins worn by TTC staff. Why the funding for the pins will come from the commission and union is beyond my understanding. If you want to show your support, pull out your wallet and buy a friggin' pin with your own money!

It used to be that spoiled and/or diseased animal products were the main vector for food-borne illness, but these days any food seems to be culpable. The latest food safety recall involves crisp, green lettuce.

Legislation in Ontario has just gone into effect that may somewhat change the nature of adoptions. Birth parents and those that have been adopted now have access to files that reveal their original identities.
