Your morning news roundup for Friday, March 7th, 2008:

Just when you thought we've had our last blast of winter, weather reports are saying that we're in for another storm that will dump over 20cm of snow on our roads and sidewalks. I hope you haven't already gotten rid of your shovel, because apparently, they're in high demand.

Even though the cold weather looks like it will be lasting into March Break, school children across the city won't have as many opportunities to enjoy the ice as city councillors yesterday voted against reopening 41 outdoor rinks for the upcoming holiday school holiday.

Some of Canada's top directors are being recognized at New York's Museum of Modern Art, and eight Canadian films will be screened at the MoMA starting next week. Nice to see our neighbors down south taking notice of the talent we have up here.

Because no Morning Brew is complete without a Rob Ford mention, the controversial city councillor is making headlines again because of comments he made in council sessions that stereotyped Asians in Toronto. At this point, I'm not surprised by anything Ford does anymore.

In yet another case of "watch what you do online," a Ryerson student is facing cheating charges after starting a Facebook group where other students could discuss homework assignments. I'm not quite sure what to think of this, so I'll let you weigh in: is Ryerson protecting its academic integrity, or is this another case of academia not understanding the web?
