Your Toronto morning news roundup for Wednesday April 23rd, 2008:

Police have charged three people who were involved in the operation a retail store in Toronto that specializes in hydroponics equipment. The retailers sold gear for indoor plant growing, which was allegedly used by up to 18 GTA marijuana grow-ops. What's next? Are drug store cashiers going to be arrested for selling mouthwash if a bar starts making and selling mouthwash shooters? (Ok, I take that back... 680news reports that the retailers were charged with producing a controlled substance, and intent to traffic a controlled substance).

Some people actually want a big box in Leslieville because for them the bottom line is low prices and one-stop convenience. Clearly the viability of local business, the aesthetic of the neighbourhood, and related traffic issues are lesser priorities.

I knew this was going to happen. Holding the city hostage, the TTC union cited higher wages within other GTA transit systems as a reason for their need for salary increases. They won their contract dispute - which will make them the highest paid in the GTA. Check out the response from the Mississauga Transit union leader. Someone else being overpaid shouldn't be grounds for you to get a raise - ever.

Guilty and not guilty verdicts in two separate, high-profile trials have a lot of people questioning the fairness of the Mexican and Canadian legal systems.
