Your Toronto morning news roundup for Friday May 23rd, 2008:

The biological parents of "Baby Angelica", who last winter was intentionally left abandoned and bleeding in a Toronto mall stairwell in frigid temperatures, have been found and charged. The couple's other three kids are now in the custody of Children's Aid. Tips from the public are being hailed crucial to the case. I know desperation can cloud judgment, but if they lack basic responsibility and morals, and can leave a baby to die, they deserve grave punishment.

Tim Hortons is in another PR jam after a patron purchased food for a hungry, pregnant homeless woman, who then stayed in the restaurant to eat it. The Good Samaritan was followed out, and accosted by an employee. Apparently the downtown King and Victoria coffee shop doesn't allow this particular homeless woman to eat there, even if the food is purchased there, because it's presumed that she'll make a mess.

Do you know this pushy fellow? He's wanted because it's alleged that he threw a fellow TTC rider off of the platform and onto the subway tracks. If you see him, hold onto a nearby pole and call police.

The Star's urban planning critic Christopher Hume lashed out once again at the Ontario Municipal Board's role in Toronto's urban blight, and made predictions as to how the Leslieville big box development might fall out. He's probably right.

The nuclear power uranium production plant at Port Hope "might" have a small uranium leak that is getting into the groundwater and into Lake Ontario. Ummmm, I can't be the only one that is a disturbed by the nature of this problem and the language used to convey it.

An inane technicality could cost a Peel region high school girls rugby team their season. The Lorne Park Spartans demolished the Streetsville Tigers 26-0, but because the results were reported to the sports association 30 minutes late, the game result has been nullified and Lorne Park ousted from the playoffs. If the decision isn't overturned, tears are sure to fall and houses are sure to be egged.
