Should TTC employees be subject to periodic drug and alcohol testing? After last year's accidental death of a worker who was high on the ganja, and this week's blitzed-on-booze driver, the issue is front and center. Now infamous union head Bob Kinnear says it'll never happen, and that his workers deserve better beer and bud than Mississauga and Vaughan transit workers (or else).

An electrician in Durham region is alleged to have tried to kill his wife by rigging the shower knobs to zap her. He failed, and was arrested, but not before leading police on a high-speed chase. The mind is a fragile thing, folks.

Rumour has it that the CBC Hockey Night in Canada theme song may be no more because the network doesn't want to cough up the royalty fees anymore. OMG. Somebody start a Facebook group or something - this is insanity (and I'm being serious)!

Residents in King West will soon get a much "needed" LCBO retail store, but not until councillors and the LCBO first hash out how tall the shop will be, and how suburban-looking the entrance will be.

Mayor David Miller has been appointed as the chair of C40, a group representing 40 eco-conscious cities from around the world, and now has an opportunity to make actions speak louder than words on an international level. Will this detract from our efforts to continue fighting for the environment here in Toronto, or spur on efforts locally so we have something to brag about to the mayors of Beijing and Rome?

Results of the annual PUG Awards were revealed last night. The Argyle Authentic Lofts in Queen West got the nod for best new Toronto residential architecture, and 76 Shuter got panned. View these and other buildings in this year's contest at the PUG 2008 site.
