Your Toronto morning news roundup for (Canada Day) Tuesday July 1st, 2008:

Happy 141st birthday, Canada! Hope you're enjoying a day off today or did yesterday or last Friday (these Tuesday holidays really make things complicated for some people's work schedules). Here's a comprehensive list of what's open and what's closed and where you can join other proud Canadians in celebrating today. A rather significant amount of drugs including k, coke, and shrooms were part of an operation allegedly running out of a Toronto frat house. Frat officials are shocked. I'm not even marginally surprised.

The victim was in his car, stopped at a red light, carrying a wad of cash from his business, when another vehicle smashed into him and two guys popped out waving guns, took the money with no resistance and then fled with the aid of the getaway driver. There's no clear description of the suspects. Sounds like an inside job to me, although police claim that this ambush "smash and grab" style of robbery is becoming more common in the GTA.

Toronto has seen cows spilled on the roads but never seen millions of bees escape from a transport truck. New Brunswick was abuzz and forced to close part of the highway after a bee-carrying truck flipped onto its side.
