What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):
blogTO this morning looks a little fresher, has a few new features, and there's lots more coming. Check out what's new on the site! And if you use Twitter you'll find that following blogTO is far more enjoyable and informative since we're now actively using it to interact with the tweeple of Toronto.
Ted Rogers, the Canadian media tycoon and founder and CEO of Rogers Communications, has passed away at the age of 75. Read about the incredible life and times of Ted Rogers in the Globe and Mail's extensive tribute piece.
While Ottawa was dealing with shifts in the political scene of unparalleled proportions, the Toronto Stock Exchange was taking a dive of magnitude not seen since the crash of 1987. I'm not sure I'd want to be in this guy's shoes.
At least the scrambling, hard-working Bay Street worker has shoes. A suspected serial burglar in the Beeches area was startled by a homeowner, who caught him in the act. The burglar ended up fleeing without his shoes on. Recognize them?

Police executed Project Saint ("Stop All Illegal Narcotic Trafficking"), a crackdown on street-level drug dealing in the city's west end. Not surprisingly, of the 72 people who were arrested many were either out on bail or on probation from previous criminal charges.
Councillors at City Hall will once again debate the street food expansion pilot project. If you haven't been following the story, here's the short version: they want to run a test but the terms are really sucky. City approved equipment, an extremely boring lineup of safe new foods (seeds? bagels? yawn), and high location fees have all pretty much reduced the mission to something not worth pursuing.
And in the not-too-distant future, the one and only George W. Bush might be making a speaking appearance in Toronto. If he's going to talk about the trials and triumphs of being the US President, or terrorism, I have zero interest in attending. But I'll pay top dollar to see him do a live reading of "My Pet Goat". Or perform a puppet show.
