What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):
According to the Sun, every day an estimated 1360kg of geese poop is dropped on Toronto, and it's only getting worse as the population of the dirty honkers rises. Is the city sitting on its hands too much on this issue? Should we be preheating the oven and getting out there with shotguns once a year to cull the gaggle some?
A Toronto woman has made the short-list for an Australian tourism promotional contest dubbed "the best job in the world". If her contest submission wins, she'll get killer accommodations, a great salary, and a fun job for 6 months down under. We're rooting for you, Christine Estima!
In baseball news (yes, it's already that time of year), Team Canada beat the Toronto Blue Jays in a friendly down in Dunedin. I'm not sure what this really means. Either it bodes well for the national team (who compete in the World Classic Tourney soon) or if it bodes badly for the Jays (who may or may not be just as sucky as they were last year). More likely though, is that it means nothing.
Although we're their biggest trading partner, share a lengthy border, and give them hockey players and comedians and Tim Hortons, a recent poll suggests that Americans still see Great Britain as their most important ally. Perhaps we should start sending them crumpets and tougher anti-terrorism propaganda, which should push us over the top.
And the national Super 7 lottery game is going to be retired in the fall, but will be replaced by another (likely equally silly money-vacuuming) weekly contest. I never quite understood why a second game was introduced... 6/49 seems to be enough of a draw, but I guess if the government can find another way to tax the stupid, they will.
