What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):
The word "staycation" was made rather popular last summer, when gas prices were upwards of $1.20-1.40/L and preventing a lot of people from taking long road trips. This coming summer, however, analysts are predicting that driving will be far more likely because there won't be a huge spike in fuel prices [CityNews].
In typical Toronto sports fan style, the bandwagon is already full and the media spilling out. The Blue Jays are off to a great start (10 wins, 4 loses) and people are already talking about our first championship run in a long time [Star]. Just wait until September, when the Jays are back in third in the AL East, vying for the playoff wild card spot...
A woman, who got caught in the middle of a bloody bar brawl in Scarborough this weekend and ended up being shot in the head with a bored out starter's pistol [Sun], is going to be fine. It's amazing how quickly the good times can turn into nasty times when boozing until 3am.

Help is coming today, for a number of Ontarians who got stranded abroad when the Conquest vacation company suddenly threw in the towel last week. Travelers will be reimbursed for the extra expenses they incur in getting back home {CBC], from a $30-million fund under the Travel Industry Act.
In a devastating loss to the theatre community, the Red Barn Theatre at Jackson's Point in Simcoe County (the oldest remaining summer theatre in Canada) was destroyed by fire this weekend [G&M]. For 59 years, the theatre hosted an array of summer performances, and those that hold it dear to them are hoping to see it rebuilt.
Restless nights are being reported by residents in the Eglinton and Mount Pleasant area. Although road work is halted in the evenings, cars that pass over the uneven giant metal plates are making it a rough night's sleep for many [Star]. To the dismay of those turning into cranky morning risers, the solution appears to be time.
If it's your thing, Happy 4/20 [Sun]! "Watch the cherry... waaatch the cherry."
