Time-lapse sequences of Toronto

It's been a while since I've posted a roundup of time-lapse sequences, and having come across a number of good ones of late, this rainy evening seems like a good time to share a few. As I mentioned in my last post of this nature, time-lapse photography is "made up of hundreds of still photographs," which "accentuate activity via fragmentation and speed." While they have a very cinematic quality -- and are almost invariably set to a soundtrack of some sort -- the unique quality they share is that each frame is generally shot a half second or more apart. They are then, obviously, sped up in post-processing to achieve the effect of semi-seamlessness.

Scenes in which a good deal of movement is present are best suited to time-lapse sequences, as is demonstrated below pedestrians, traffic and the closing of the Rogers Centre roof.

I'm rarely a fan of the musical choices photographers make when putting these together, but it's hard to deny that the addition of sound adds something to the sequences. But, remember to check the volume on your computer before playing these, as the music can sometimes be startling if you've left the speakers on high. Enjoy!
