Twitter reaction to Rob Ford's decision to skip Pride
So Rob Ford's not going to make an appearance at Pride 2011. Citing a family engagement at his cottage in Huntsville, he'll be the first mayor in recent memory to skip the event (David Miller, Mel Lastman and Barbara Hall all attended the parade). Not surprisingly, there's been tons of reaction to the decision. Some question whether or not his weekend commitment is as important as he's made it out to appear, others say that family events should come first, while still others opine that the Mayor of Toronto should be at an event like Pride no matter what.
Here's a roundup of some of the reaction to today's news.
@blogTO His family tradition is far more important. You're joking right?
@blogTO You'd think the business-minded Ford would attend a festival that brings in 100's of millions of $ to the city.
@blogTO @JProskowGlobal you guys know what cottaging means in Britain right? #lol
@JProskowGlobal @blogTO why is this news or twitter worthy? Who cares if he took time off.
@thebestjasty @blogTO Are you actually saying that the Pride Parade is just like every other parade in Toronto? #ignorance
Rob Ford on Gay Pride in Oct:"I don't know what my schedule will be". In June:"I have a lifetime family tradition of going to the cottage".
@thebestjasty @blogTO I expect him to be at every parade... on the last float in a furry, red suit.
@blogTO I'm not sure what the problem is. Does anyone really want Ford at Pride anyway? Seems like a win/win to me...
@blogTO family should come 1st for Mayor Ford than a Pride Parade! if he went to every parade in the city he'd never see his family!
@blogTO oh Rob! Don't you think priorities should change once you become the Mayor? I am sure the Family will understand ... Or will they?
@blogTO Family trumps all.
@blogTO So Ford has been avoiding Pride for years as a tradition?
@blogTO i don't like rob ford, but to question if pride is more important than his family is a joke
Why complain that Rob Ford won't go to Gay Pride? You would boo him if you saw him there, or complain he doesn't belong. And he doesn't.
If any writer or editor claims Church St & Pride don't matter anymore, the ongoing reaction to Ford's cottaging demonstrates the truth.
