Rob Ford Muzik Nightclub

Rob Ford accused of cocaine-addled night at Muzik

In addition to the existence of recent video of Rob Ford smoking crack and an audio recording of the mayor making racist and misogynist remarks at an Etobicoke pub, last night also included allegations as to what our municipal leader gets up to when he visits his friends at Muzik Nightclub. When Toronto Star Editor Michael Cook tweeted last night that his paper was set to publish a story in which Ford became enraged after an encounter with Justin Bieber the club, one wondered briefly if it was joke. It wasn't. None of this is.

The Star's story outlines eye witness accounts of two visits Ford paid to Muzik, both of which involved extended visits to the washroom followed by questionable behaviour.

"Ford and his new entourage showed up around midnight and were ushered into a private booth. Three party hostesses were told to hand over their phones, according to sources with knowledge of the night. The Star has been told by people familiar with Muzik that this is typical behaviour when Ford arrives...

People familiar with his activities over the next five hours (at least two partygoers, a Canadian actress and a Bieber follower tweeted that Ford and Bieber were there but did not provide details) say that Ford drank to excess and at one point went to a private washroom. He emerged 45 minutes later and was incoherent and rambling."

Also problematic about the Muzik story is the relationship Ford is said to have with its owner, Zlatko Starkovski. The club recently campaigned successfully to have EDM events banned on CNE grounds, which doesn't smell quite right given that Starkovski is a registered lobbyist and City Hall and clearly tight with the mayor.

Normally optics of this sort would pose a big problem for a politician, but a possible conflict of interest is only one issue in a sea of controversy that currently surrounds the Rob Ford.
