Is the mayoral race about to get interesting after all?
To read one poll, you'd think John Tory has already run away with the Toronto mayoral race. The latest survey from Ipsos Reid puts Tory way out front with 48 per cent of the projected vote, followed by Doug Ford and Olivia Chow at 26 per cent. That gap would be one hell of a mountain to climb for both of the trailing candidates. But, just to keep things interesting (and underscore just how unreliable polling is in general), Mainstreet Technologies has just released new numbers that show a significantly tighter race.
According to their recent telephone survey, Tory has 37 per cent of the vote, ahead of Ford at 30 per cent and Chow way back at 21 per cent. That's an astonishing difference in projection, but one that is ripe with story lines. Is Doug Ford's stock actually on the rise? Is Olivia Chow already finished? Depending on whose numbers you believe, the mayoral race is far from a done deal.
