hov lanes tickets

Police issued thousands of tickets to HOV lane drivers

Now that the restrictions on the temporary HOV lanes have eased up, it's time to reflect back on that month long period when Torontonians wouldn't stop kvetching about traffic and the Pan Am Games.

According to a report from CBC, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Toronto police gave out 1,735 tickets between June 29 and July 26 for improper usage of the HOV lanes. They wrote an additional 2,000 for other offences.

But, you're not in the clear yet. Until August 18, you'll need to have two occupants in your vehicle to drive in the HOV lanes.

Are you surprised by the number of tickets police handed out? Let us know in the comments.
