TTC subway closures are about to become a very common thing in 2016. There's been a bit of a reprieve to start the year, but as was the case in the late fall, scheduled shut downs of both Line 1 and 2 are about to ramp up. In fact, starting in April there will be a closure of some kind seven weeks in a row.

The words "shuttle bus" will become uncomfortably familiar in the coming weeks. But, as painful as it will be to get around the affected areas during the closures, the work is necessary to update aging infrastructure and to install the system required for automatic train control. The TTC just can't get all of this work done at the conclusion of service each night.

Here's a list of scheduled closures the TTC has just released. Head over to the TTC website for detailed information regarding each shut down.

March 2016

• Line 1 Yonge-University: St George to Lawrence West closure on March 5 and 6
• Line 1 Yonge-University: St George to Lawrence West closure on March 19 and 20

April 2016

• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Kennedy to Victoria Park closure on April 2
• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Pape to St George opening late on April 3
• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: St George to Jane closure on April 9 and 10
• Line 1 Yonge-University: St George to Lawrence West closure on April 16 and 17
• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Pape to St George early closure on April 17
• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Kennedy to Victoria Park closure on April 23 and 24
• Line 3 Scarborough: McCowan to Kennedy closure on April 30 and May 1

May 2016

• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Pape to St George opening late on May 1
• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Ossington to Jane closure on May 7 and 8
• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Pape to St George opening late on May 15
• Line 1 Yonge-University: St Clair West to Downsview closure on May 28 and 29

June 2016

• Line 3 Scarborough: McCowan to Kennedy closure on June 4 and 5
• Line 2 Bloor-Danforth: Pape to St George early closure on June 5
