Toronto taxi protest may block the Gardiner on Friday

It's going to be a busy weekend in Toronto with the NBA All-Star festivities and the Auto Show happening in the city's downtown core.

You may have a little trouble getting around, however, because Toronto-area taxi drivers are planning to protest against UberX starting Friday, February 12 during the post-work rush hour.

As CTV New reports today, the United Taxi Workers Association plans to start its protest down Highway 27 and Highway 427.

The taxi procession will then head east along the Gardiner Expressway towards the York/Bay exit and the Air Canada Centre, where drivers will circle the stadium.

Yesterday, Beck Taxi's president Gail Beck-Souter urged drivers not to join the protest. The cab company made a similar effort to quash the December 9 strike as well.

And today, according to CP24, the unrelated Toronto Taxi Alliance said it would seek a court injunction to shut down UberX in Toronto.
