Study shows people don't like calling Toronto 'The 6ix'

How many times have you told someone you're running through The Six with your woes? Regardless of how much we all love dropping Drake lines in Toronto, apparently, not very many of us actually refer to our city as The 6ix.

This news comes out of a super informative Forum Research poll, which reveals that locals refer to the city most often as Toronto (75 per cent), as opposed to TO (10 per cent), The 6ix (7 per cent), or another, unspecified moniker (8 per cent).

Forum randomly sampled 864 voters to compile these results, which are accurate 19 times out of 20, plus or minus 3 percentage points.

And surprisingly, the majority of respondents (70 per cent) actually pronounce all of the syllables in Toronto. Only 24 per cent said they shorten it to the more manageable "Tronnah."

"We will have to repeat this poll in a year or two to see if the term 'The 6ix' has gained any traction, or, indeed, has survived at all," said Forum Research president Dr. Lorne Bozinoff in a news release. "But for now, "Toronto" is what people call the city, with a brief nod to the classic 'TO'"
