The TTC admits it's too crowded
If you regularly take the bus or streetcar to get around the city, you probably know that it's super crowded on certain routes; good luck getting a seat - or even a comfortable place to stand - on the 504, for instance, if you need to jet across King Street during rush hour.
As the Toronto Star reports today, 43 of about the TTC's 155 bus and streetcar routes are overcrowded at one point during each day.
Unsurprisingly, the 504 is the most overcrowded line - on average, it reaches 126 per cent capacity during the peak morning rush. Other packed routes include 505 Dundas, 95 York Mills, 510 Spadina and 511 Bathurst.
The TTC was going to spend $1.5 million to increase service, but the transit agency scrapped this plan thanks to lower than expected ridership this year.
