TTC expects new streetcars to be delayed yet again
When will Toronto's streetcar-related woes come to an end? After numerous delays, the TTC warns that Bombardier still might not be able to meet its delivery deadline for Toronto's fleet of new streetcars.
According to CBC News, a new TTC reports indicates that Bombardier's ability to deliver Toronto 204 new streetcars before 2019 is questionable.
The TTC currently has 27 new streetcars, and it was supposed to have 30 by the end of this year.
Back in May, Bombardier made moves to speed up delivery, however, TTC staff think the targets might not be realistic. That's because as part of Bombardier's new delivery plan, the transit commission is expecting 76 streetcars in 2018 and 58 in 2019, which works out to one car every 3.3 days in 2018 and every 4.4 days the following year.
Along with this not seeming realistic, TTC staff based their report on the production readiness at Bombardier's plants across North America, in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
