toronto chair throw

Viral video shows woman tossing chair from balcony onto Toronto highway

The only thing dumber than endangering the lives of other people for no reason whatsoever is doing it despite the presence of cameras—or, worse still, doing it because you're being filmed.

Toronto Police are investigating a video clip that surfaced on Reddit over the weekend in which a young woman is seeing throwing a piece of patio furniture from a condo balcony onto the busy Gardiner Expressway.

A version of the video recorded from Instagram shows its location tagged as "Canada Toronto," but little else is known about the clip, including when it was shot.

Based on the footage, the incident seems to have taken place on the balcony of a high, south-facing unit near Harbour Street.

"Good Morning," reads an apparent Snapchat caption over the clip, which starts with a woman looking down over the highway for a brief moment before chucking a chair over the railing and running away.

The person filming then turns the camera downwards, where the chair can be seen falling dangerously close to oncoming traffic. The video cuts out before the chair lands, seemingly in front of a west-bound vehicle under the Gardiner.

One Redditor reports that there were actually two chairs thrown off the balcony that day and shared a photo to prove it.

"Here are the TWO chairs that were thrown from the balcony, sitting mangled on the north-east corner of Lakeshore and York," wrote the poster with a photo of two seemingly identical chairs crumpled up next to a bike rack in front of the Ice Condo complex.

Police have yet to say if anyone was injured or if any vehicles were damaged as a result of the chair toss, but did confirm to CP24 that the TPS cybercrime unit is investigating.

Whether or not this is a copycat stunt, based on a strikingly similar viral video shot near the same location in December, or an isolated act of yutes behaving badly, remains to be seen.
