Toronto Humane Society rescues 27 adorable dogs that will soon need homes

If you, like so many other people stuck at home amid lockdown orders, have been trying desperately to adopt a dog throughout this pandemic but haven't had success due to increased demand, then you'll be glad to know that the Toronto Humane Society will soon have 27 beautiful new pups up for adoption.

The shelter wrote on social media this week that they received more than two dozen dogs through their partner Northern Reach Rescue Network, an organization that works with remote northern community volunteers to fly dogs in need of homes and/or veterinary care into Southern Ontario.

"The transport itself was quite a harrowing journey which included whiteout conditions, road closures and all the challenges that come with a northern winter," wrote THS on Facebook Monday.

"After an exceptionally long drive by our dedicated driver, our adorable and fluffy guests arrived yesterday morning at 6 a.m."

Among the 27 dogs rescued by THS are two moms and their litters of puppies, including beautiful Dagmar and her eight-week-old pups.

But while the dogs have officially arrived in Toronto, they're not ready to be adopted just yet.

The puppies in particular will have to wait until they're old enough to be spayed or neutered before they can be put up for adoption, and anyone interested in providing a home for one of these beauties will have to fill out an application to start the virtual adoption process once they're available on the adoptions page.

"This transfer truly represents the meaning of partnership and required all hands-on deck," wrote THS.

"Some of the dogs will be returning to their communities once they get all the veterinary attention they need. Others will be looking for new homes in Toronto soon!"
