Toronto driver flees ticket after grabbing Chick-fil-A and people have thoughts

One Toronto driver was recently so desperate to secure a fried chicken sandwich for lunch that they parked in an illegal zone and even attempted to evade a parking ticket after getting caught.

Parking Enforcement Officer Erin Urquhart shared the viral video on TikTok with her 309,000 followers this week, which shows a white vehicle parked in front of a fire hydrant in a no-stopping zone.

The incident occurred across the street from the Chick-fil-A location at Yonge and Bloor

"In Toronto, if you drive away from a parking officer when they're issuing your car a ticket before you've gotten the ticket served, it's pretty likely you're going to get it in the mail, which is exactly what happened to this car and this driver," Urquhart explained in the video.

@tps_bikehart Drivers wouldnt have to drive away from getting tickets if they just parked leggaly ….. this is a very busy side street off bloor where theres a green P parking lot just meters from where this car was illegally parked. $100 will be mailed. #fyp #toronto #parkingticket #driveaway #yougotmail #parkingenforcement #bikepatrol #downtowntoronto #downtown #parkingenforcement ♬ original sound - erin.urquhart

After coming to a stop, the officer discovered that there was only a passenger and no driver in the parked car.

"In a no-stopping zone, I don't even have to ask a driver or passenger to move, I can just write the ticket while they're sitting in the car which is what I did here," Urquhart continued.

After asking the passenger to move the vehicle, they gestured a "one-minute" sign and proceeded to speak on the phone, according to the officer.

"As I'm walking up to go serve the ticket, a driver comes flying across the street from Chick-fil-A, jumps in and drives off," she explained. "The damage was done when they parked there, and now they're going to get their $100 ticket in the mail," Urquhart concluded.

Since it was posted, the video has amassed over 33k likes and nearly 500k views, with commenters criticizing both the parking officer and the driver who pulled the "inconsiderate" move.

"I cannot understand why the passenger couldn't get the food instead," one person wrote.

"That was an expensive lunch for them," another person joked.

"Why are people upset that she is doing her job?" one user asked. "Especially when they parked in front of a fire hydrant."

"$100 for Chick-fil-A? Not bad," another commenter said.

Although we can understand that desperate times sometimes call for desperate measures (especially when it comes to satisfying your hunger), it's safe to say that no chicken sandwich is worth a $100 fine.
