TTC descends into complete morning chaos due to subway outage

The Monday morning commute in Toronto descended into chaos when a TTC subway outage ground commuters to a halt just after 7 a.m.

The TTC announced an operational issue with the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth just before the peak of morning service, advising passengers that service was halted between St George and Broadview with shuttle buses running to relieve subway commuters.

The TTC has blamed the latest outage on hydraulic fluid spilled on tracks.

Just after 10 a.m., the TTC shared that the outage had extended all the way to Woodbine Station, shuttering an over 7-kilometres stretch of track.

Massive queues formed outside of subway stations as shuttle buses deployed by the TTC struggled to handle the rush-hour crowds.

Passengers along this lengthy closure had to contend for limited space on shuttle buses. Those lucky enough to secure a spot on the subway replacement buses found themselves cramped like sardines.

The latest hiccup in TTC service comes amid a lengthy string of weekend closures and weekday early closures to accommodate track work on the network, as well as associated slow-speed zones that have ha commuters complaining for much of the year.
